Coastline - Sea Turtle

Maple in varying stages of spalting was used for this stunning backer. Framed in oiled walnut with a navy blue inner frame, followed by a second inner walnut frame. The entire backer was oiled generously with Walrus Oil to prevent colour change over the years. Cherry wood was used for the shell of the turtle. The outer edges of each shell piece was stained slightly darker using a Varathane stain and finished with Walrus Oil to help the beautiful wood grain 'pop'. The body of the turtle was also cut by hand and shaped using my rotary tool. Varying shades of brown, turquoise, blue & beige were used to paint the body and a "scale" stencil was used to create the illusion of scaly skin in addition to the scales added with the rotary tool.

This piece comes complete with a large cleat hanger for easy hanging.
